Discovery Summer combines practical coding projects with English communication and a boarding-school experience.
Students work with Python, Turtle Graphics, robotics equipment, and Raspberry Pi, with projects ranging from animations to games and home security systems.
It suits students who want to build technical confidence while collaborating, speaking English, and joining a broad activity program.
Coding + Tech Academy is Discovery Summer's residential program combining computer science projects with English learning at Shrewsbury School. Students explore code, robotics, and game design through interactive work with Python, Turtle Graphics, JavaScript, and Raspberry Pi.
The academic experience pairs coding mornings with English Skills, workshops, and presentations. Outside class, students join supervised activities, excursions, and boarding-house life alongside an international community and resident English Student Hosts.
Level-specific projects connect programming concepts to animations, robotic arms, games, and home automation.
Coding sits alongside substantial English teaching, giving students repeated opportunities to explain and discuss their work.
Game design includes debugging and constructive peer feedback, encouraging students to improve rather than simply finish a project.
Resident house parents, a minimum 1:4 staffing ratio, and full board provide a structured residential experience.
Students who want practical coding challenges alongside English practice, social activities, and supervised residential life.
You want a coding-only course or unrestricted phone access, because English lessons and campus rules are central to the experience.
The strongest value is the combination of practical computing, English communication, and a supervised residential routine. Students interested in both technology and language development can practise technical ideas in a collaborative setting.
The decision depends on whether you want that full experience, since the residential fee also covers accommodation, meals, and activities. Coding is only one part of the schedule, and project choices depend on ability rather than every student completing every advanced task.
