    Sports Academy summary

Sports Academy combines a weekly sport choice with English Skills, workshops and presentations. Students can focus on Tennis, Golf, Horse Riding or Adventure Sports.

The experience extends beyond coaching: students meet English Student Hosts, join excursions and take part in evening activities.

It suits students who want practical English practice alongside an active camp routine, especially those interested in trying different sports.

    What is Sports Academy?

Sports Academy is Discovery Summer's residential camp at Shrewsbury School, combining specialist sports coaching with English-language learning. Students choose Tennis, Golf, Horse Riding or Adventure Sports for each week, either continuing with one option or changing their focus.

English Skills classes develop communication and accuracy, while workshops use research, discussion and creative tasks. Presentations, resident English Student Hosts, excursions and evening activities give students further opportunities to use English beyond the classroom.

    Why Succeed highlights Sports Academy

    • A weekly sport choice lets students pursue continuity or try another discipline without losing the English-learning structure.

    • Tennis coaching covers tactical, technical, physical and mental development, including video analysis.

    • Resident English Student Hosts add everyday opportunities to practice communication outside lessons.

    • Boarding, meals, excursions and resident supervision create a clearly structured experience for families.

    Who is Sports Academy for?

    Best for

Students who want sport and practical English learning together, with coaching, workshops and a structured residential routine.

    Not ideal if

You want a camp devoted entirely to sport or need unrestricted phone access and a highly independent daily schedule.

    Is Sports Academy worth it?

The strongest reason to choose Sports Academy is its combination of coached practice and everyday English use. Workshops, presentations and English Student Hosts give the language element a practical purpose beyond classroom exercises.

The balance matters: substantial time is reserved for English, excursions and social activities, so this is a broader camp experience rather than continuous sports training. Families should compare the complete cost after sport supplements and consider whether shared boarding and restricted phone use suit their child.
