This is a practical introduction to trial law, built around legal lectures, advocacy workshops and collaborative case preparation.
Students learn courtroom procedure, direct and cross-examination, objections, evidence, legal ethics and persuasive argument before applying those skills in a mock-trial finale.
It particularly suits aspiring lawyers who want structured career exploration, public-speaking practice and an experience of university legal education.
Intensive Law & Trial is an Envision pre-college programme delivered in collaboration with Stanford Law School. It introduces motivated students to trial preparation, litigation, courtroom procedure and the wider US legal system.
Students attend lectures from Stanford faculty and legal professionals, practise advocacy skills in workshops and collaborate on a case. The experience culminates in a full mock trial where participants act as attorneys or witnesses.
The programme builds towards a full-scale mock trial in a real courtroom, giving the curriculum a clear practical purpose.
Stanford Law faculty and experienced attorneys contribute lectures on evidence, tort law, procedure and advocacy.
Students repeatedly practise direct examination, cross-examination, objections, opening statements and closing arguments.
Two college credits are available to qualified students and included in tuition.
Residential campus life, peer collaboration and a San Francisco visit broaden the experience beyond classroom study.
Motivated high-school students seriously exploring law who enjoy discussion, teamwork, writing and speaking in front of others.
You want a low-cost taster, a non-residential course or a programme focused mainly on independent reading rather than performance and group work.
It can be worthwhile for a student who wants to test a genuine interest in litigation through sustained practical work. The mock trial, repeated advocacy practice and exposure to legal professionals offer more depth than a general campus tour or short career talk.
The main limitation is value for money: tuition is substantial, and travel to the programme is additional. College credit and a Stanford setting may be attractive, but students should choose it for the curriculum and hands-on experience rather than assuming the university name alone will strengthen an application.
