This is a demanding mathematics Olympiad built around rigorous proof rather than short numerical answers.

The British Mathematical Olympiad Round 1 is UKMT's first national Olympiad round and a follow-on from the Senior Mathematical Challenge. Its six problems test whether students can develop complete mathematical arguments rather than select or state answers.
The paper is run by schools under exam conditions, with students writing full solutions that are later scanned and submitted for marking. Strong performance can provide a route into further training and selection activity connected with international mathematics competitions.
