Save programAppleby’s enrichment course combines debating and public speaking with practical work on clear, persuasive arguments.
Students explore impromptu speaking, persuasive presentations, and parliamentary debate. The Senior version includes a persuasive speech and a formal debate assignment.
It suits learners who want to participate more confidently in discussions and presentations, and who are willing to practice speaking in front of others.
The Debating and Public Speaking Enrichment Program is Appleby College’s practical course in persuasive communication and argumentation. Its Junior and Senior versions develop speaking confidence through activities, presentations, and debate practice. Teaching connects these skills with English and Social Sciences learning.
Students brainstorm topics, organize speeches, and practice delivering messages that connect with an audience. They explore impromptu speaking and prepared and impromptu parliamentary debate, while Senior participants also work on rebuttals and named speech and debate assignments.
Prepared and impromptu formats give students practice in both planned argumentation and thinking on their feet.
The Senior speech and formal-debate assignments make the learning concrete.
The 15-student class cap creates a manageable setting for group discussion and speaking activities.
Different Junior and Senior daily structures balance academic practice with the needs of younger learners.
Students who want practical speaking experience, stronger arguments, and greater confidence contributing to discussions.
You want a mainly recreational camp or prefer activities that avoid speaking in front of others.
This course is worth considering when a student needs structured practice explaining ideas and responding to opposing arguments. Its mix of persuasive presentations and parliamentary debate offers useful preparation for classroom discussions and future speaking opportunities.
The benefit depends on participating actively rather than simply attending for a certificate. A short course should be treated as a starting point for continued practice, and repeating another session brings the same content rather than a new level.
