Save programImperial's Engineering Summer School is a broad introduction to engineering through specialist teaching and practical group challenges. It connects academic ideas with experiments, design decisions, and working prototypes.
Students explore different engineering departments before joining an interdisciplinary Innovation Challenge. It suits students who want to compare engineering interests and enjoy learning through collaboration.
Engineering Summer School is the engineering subject option within Imperial College London's Global Summer School. Students learn through workshops, lectures, seminars, and practical work across several engineering disciplines. The experience includes exposure to specialist facilities and academics who connect engineering concepts with real applications.
Students conduct experiments, analyze data, and design and test models in teams. The first week explores engineering, while the second brings students together across academic subjects for an Innovation Challenge led by the Imperial Enterprise Lab. Campus living and social activities add an introduction to university life.
Exposure to several engineering disciplines helps students compare interests before choosing a university specialization.
Wind tunnels, process-control simulations, and a Carbon Capture Pilot Plant connect classroom ideas with working research facilities.
Model-building and testing activities make design constraints and engineering trade-offs tangible.
The Enterprise Lab's interdisciplinary challenge develops communication and teamwork alongside technical thinking.
Current Imperial student mentors offer academic and pastoral support during the campus experience.
Students who enjoy STEM, practical experimentation, and team design work, and want to explore several engineering disciplines before specializing.
You want a course devoted entirely to one engineering branch or need a day-student option with evenings at home.
This is a strong option for testing whether engineering appeals beyond school mathematics and science. Specialist facilities, practical challenges, and contact with Imperial academics give students concrete experiences to reflect on when comparing future study choices.
The substantial fee and mandatory campus stay make family planning important. Its breadth is useful for exploration, but students seeking sustained depth in one engineering specialization should compare more focused courses. Much of the second week is an interdisciplinary project rather than additional engineering department sessions.
