The fellowship links academic research to community action: students develop a paper and then turn its findings into a passion project.
Harvard student mentors support research development, professor outreach, recommendation planning and portfolio building.
It suits students who want to create and explain their own work, with the patience to revise a paper and test a practical project.
The Global Impact Fellowship is Sir Luther Center's standalone research and community-project program, delivered through interactive Zoom sessions and individual mentorship. Sir Luther Center is an educational initiative of Learn with Leaders. Fellows first develop a research paper, then apply its findings through a community-facing passion project.
The experience combines topic selection, literature review and academic writing with project design, professor outreach and a final showcase. Illustrative projects include environmental education, community health workshops, coding initiatives and sustainable products. A digital portfolio brings the research and practical work together.
The research-to-project sequence gives students a practical reason to use their findings beyond a paper.
A cohort capped at 12 students pairs collaborative work with individual Harvard student mentorship.
Professor outreach and portfolio development help students explain and share their work.
Named mentors and a detailed introductory curriculum make the teaching approach easier to evaluate.
Students who want sustained guidance from a research question through to a practical community project and portfolio.
You want only a short subject taster or expect guaranteed publication, professor responses or a college admissions result.
This fellowship can be worthwhile if you need structure for both research writing and putting an idea into practice. Its strongest feature is the connection between the paper, project and portfolio, giving you several ways to demonstrate your own contribution.
The value depends on whether you will revise your work, participate in mentoring and follow through on the project. Publication remains a journal decision, and outreach or application guidance cannot guarantee external opportunities. Compare the mentoring arrangement and intended outputs with the support already available through your school.
