Sustainable Cities connects leadership with UN SDG11, asking students to develop ideas for urban spaces that are inclusive, safe, resilient, and environmentally sustainable.
The academic experience combines global case studies, research, discussion, cross-cultural collaboration, strategic planning, and presentations.
It suits students who want to connect environmental questions with community well-being and policy decisions.
Global Leadership Course: Sustainable Cities is a University of Toronto, New College Pre-University course focused on UN SDG11 Sustainable Cities and Communities. It uses a Global Citizenship Educational framework and design thinking to examine complex urban challenges.
Students investigate global case studies and consider how policy can balance growth with environmental stewardship. Research, discussion, collaborative problem-solving, and presentations form the academic experience, alongside the wider residential campus program.
Its focus on SDG11 gives leadership study a concrete problem: making urban communities more inclusive and sustainable.
Global case studies connect environmental stewardship with growth, resilience, and community well-being.
Research and presentations ask students to support ideas with evidence and communicate them clearly.
Residential campus life combines academic study with supervised cultural activities and excursions.
Students interested in urban sustainability, community well-being, and policy who enjoy research, collaboration, and presenting ideas.
You want a single afternoon class without residential commitments, or prefer independent study over discussion and group problem-solving.
This course is a strong fit if you want to test your interest in how environmental and social priorities shape cities. Its combination of case studies, academic research, and presentations gives you practical ways to turn broad concerns into supported proposals.
The residential package offers a substantial campus experience, but also commits you to a morning course and organized activities. Weigh the full package against your goals: its value lies in participation and subject exploration, rather than treating attendance as an admissions advantage.
