Save programA focused residential introduction to human physiology, exercise, rehabilitation, wellness, and related career pathways.
Students complete practical testing and fitness activities, use health-procedure technology, and visit on- and off-campus facilities.
It suits students who want to test their interest in exercise science through applied work rather than classroom study alone.
The Health and Exercise Science Institute is a Wake Forest University Summer Immersion Program focused on how the body works, how exercise supports health, and how professionals assess physical function. Its curriculum connects anatomy, physiology, rehabilitation, conditioning, nutrition, and career exploration.
The experience combines faculty teaching with heart-rate, blood-pressure, muscle-function, pulmonary, and fitness activities. Students also tour facilities connected to health and fitness, giving the academic material a practical context.
The curriculum connects body systems, exercise, rehabilitation, nutrition, and career exploration in one focused experience.
Practical activities include blood-pressure, pulmonary, muscle-function, and cardio-respiratory testing.
Students learn from Wake Forest faculty and visit facilities dedicated to health and fitness.
The residential format includes structured campus life, staff supervision, meals, and evening activities.
Successful participants receive an official Wake Forest University Certificate of Completion.
Students curious about physiology, fitness testing, rehabilitation, sports nutrition, or exercise-related careers who prefer practical learning.
You need academic credit, a non-residential option, or a longer course with sustained research and formal assessment.
This institute offers a useful way to test genuine interest in health and exercise science before choosing a university subject or career direction. The mix of faculty teaching, laboratory-style testing, conditioning activities, and facility tours gives students more context than a purely lecture-based course.
The main limitation is depth: one week can provide exploration and confidence, but not the sustained research, clinical training, or academic credit of a longer course. Its value is strongest for students who will reflect on the experience and use it to guide their next academic step.
