Online discipline portfolio
YoungArts invites emerging artists to submit original work in classical music, dance, design, film, jazz, photography, theater, visual arts, voice or writing.
Applicants choose a discipline and category, then upload the required recordings, documents or portfolio images for several rounds of specialist review.
It suits committed young artists with a developed body of work who can follow detailed category rules and make thoughtful portfolio choices.
The National Arts Competition is YoungArts' multidisciplinary contest for emerging visual, literary and performing artists. Entrants apply in one of ten disciplines, with category options covering specific practices such as composition, ballet, film, photography, theatre and writing.
Students assemble discipline-specific media and submit through an online portal. National panels of artists assess each entry through multiple review rounds, while award winners gain continuing access to professional development, creative opportunities and the YoungArts community.
Ten disciplines make the competition relevant to artists working across performance, literature, film, design and visual media.
Applications are judged by discipline-specific national panels through several review rounds.
Every winner receives a cash award and continuing access to creative and professional support.
Fee waivers make the application accessible to artists who cannot pay the standard charge.
Winners with distinction can attend an intensive interdisciplinary week with established artists and peers.
Serious young artists with a developed creative voice and strong work they can curate into a discipline-specific application.
You are still exploring casually, need extensive guidance choosing every submission piece or cannot meet the category's technical requirements.
Yes, for a committed young artist who already has strong work and wants a serious external assessment. The discipline-specific judging, national recognition and continuing winner support make the potential value broader than a single cash award.
The competition is selective, and a polished application may require considerable filming, recording, editing or portfolio curation. Enter because the preparation will sharpen how you present your work, not because recognition is guaranteed.
