To get a summer school scholarship, identify the provider’s funding route, follow its application requirements and confirm what the award covers.
What Succeed checks
We review public sources, provider information and recognised education-sector guidance, then focus on what helps students make practical decisions.
How official sources are used
We use official sources where available, especially for deadlines, eligibility, costs, availability and application details.
What Last verified means
Last verified is the latest date Succeed checked the key public information used in this guide. Details can still change after that date.
Why details can change
Opportunity details can change between review cycles. Always check the official source before applying or making a final decision.
Succeed's guidance is editorially independent. Providers do not approve or control the advice in our guides. If a provider relationship affects a page, we state it clearly.
Summer program financial aid helps reduce the amount a family must pay to attend a particular program. The word scholarship can describe an award based on financial need, assessed work or other provider criteria, so its name alone does not explain how it is awarded. Use the provider’s exact funding terms to identify the application route and covered expenses.
Yale Young Global Scholars describes its need-based financial aid as a tuition discount covering up to 100% of tuition, available equally to domestic and international students. Its limited named scholarships are also need-based packages, with travel covered by some awards but excluded from others. Succeed’s advice is to separate the tuition reduction from the travel budget and request aid within the program application.
Merit awards assess performance against published criteria; Immerse Education’s Essay Competition awards full and partial course scholarships based on essay grades. A booking discount follows different terms: Malvern College Summer School publishes 5% off per additional child when siblings are booked together, subject to provider confirmation. In UK usage, a bursary often means support assessed against financial need, but the provider’s definition controls. Compare these routes with free programs and keep scholarships for degree study outside this summer program search.
Record whether the provider offers need-based aid, merit awards, bursaries, discounts or a free program.
Common mistake: Do not classify an award by its name alone.
Compare your age at attendance, school year, school type, residency and circumstances with both program and funding requirements.
Common mistake: Permission to apply does not guarantee funding.
Record application, aid, document, award-redemption and payment deadlines, including time zones and tasks assigned to adults.
Common mistake: The program deadline may not cover every funding task.
Collect only the documents the provider accepts, checking the required reporting periods, currencies, language and file formats.
Common mistake: Another provider’s document list may not apply.
Describe household finances accurately for need-based aid, or follow the published task and judging criteria for a merit award.
Common mistake: Keep assessed student work in the student’s own voice.
Complete the required funding section or separate form, request any application fee waiver, and confirm supporting submissions.
Common mistake: A fee waiver request is separate from tuition funding.
Subtract confirmed funding from covered charges, then add excluded expenses and compare the total with your family’s budget.
Common mistake: Do not budget an undecided award as confirmed income.
Funding rules, deposits and payment terms change between years and differ by provider. Get written confirmation of any award and of the payment terms before you make a non-refundable commitment.

Providers use scholarship for different funding arrangements, including need-based packages at YYGS.
Read the assessment criteria before choosing your application route.
Full tuition coverage can leave travel and other expenses unpaid, depending on the award’s terms.
Build a separate budget for all excluded expenses.
Some providers require funding requests within the initial application; YYGS requires its financial aid section to be completed then.
Confirm the funding process before submitting the program application.
Charitable funds set their own qualifying rules and permitted uses, and a search match does not guarantee an award.
Confirm that the fund can support your specific summer program expense.
Use the Opportunity Match Quiz to narrow program choices, then compare each provider’s funding rules separately.
