Save programGame theory turns questions about competition and cooperation into mathematical problems. Appleby combines classic strategic dilemmas with practical games so students can test how different choices affect outcomes.
The course connects functions, logic, probability, and expected value to decisions in economics, politics, and psychology. It suits students who enjoy discussing strategies and applying mathematics beyond textbook exercises.
The Game Theory Enrichment Program is Appleby College’s applied course in the mathematics of strategic decision-making. Published by the provider as Game Theory Sr., it explores how competition and cooperation shape choices in economics, politics, psychology, and global negotiations.
Students investigate the Prisoner’s Dilemma and the Tragedy of the Commons, then test strategies through Settlers of Catan, card challenges, and cooperative team tasks. Mathematical modeling, probability, and expected value connect the activities to senior mathematics, including Functions and Data Management.
Classic strategic dilemmas give abstract mathematical ideas a concrete starting point.
Board games and cooperative tasks let students test decisions and observe their consequences.
Connections to Functions and Data Management make the course relevant to further mathematics study.
A maximum class size of 15 supports the course’s discussion and group-activity format.
Students who enjoy mathematical reasoning, strategic board games, and questions about how people compete or cooperate.
You want a primarily recreational camp or a course focused on coding and building video games.
This course is a useful choice if you want to see how mathematics explains decisions between people and groups. Its strongest feature is the opportunity to move between formal ideas and games where strategies can be tested directly.
The value depends on enjoying sustained classroom learning and collaborative discussion. A short enrichment course offers focused exploration, so students seeking a broader recreation program or a substantial research output should compare other options.
