Get next-cycle reminderThe school leaver pathway lets students try undergraduate modules through research-informed lectures, seminars and workshops alongside university students.
Auditing involves active discussion and optional individual assessments with indicative grades. The outcome is a Certificate of Completion rather than academic credit or an official transcript.
It suits students who want to test a subject and experience university learning while taking responsibility for their own participation and daily routine.
The Undergraduate Summer School - School Leaver Pathway (Age 18) is King’s College London’s route into undergraduate summer modules for school leavers. Students join research-informed lectures, seminars and workshops alongside international undergraduate students, exploring subjects such as law, business, artificial intelligence, literature and psychology.
Participants study in an auditing capacity: they attend classes, contribute to discussions and can complete individual assessments for indicative grades. The pathway awards a Certificate of Completion, without academic credit or an official transcript. Its support model follows undergraduate student arrangements.
Studying alongside undergraduate students gives a direct view of university classroom expectations.
Research-informed seminars, workshops and lectures offer several ways to engage with a subject.
Indicative assessment grades provide a way to test understanding without seeking transferable credit.
The module list spans distinct disciplines, helping students explore academic interests before degree study.
Students who want to test undergraduate subject learning and feel comfortable contributing to discussions alongside university students.
You need transferable credit, an official academic transcript or the supervision model of a summer school for younger students.
This pathway can be worthwhile when your main aim is to experience undergraduate teaching and test your interest in a subject. Studying alongside university students and taking indicative assessments gives you concrete experiences to reflect on afterward.
Its value depends on how actively you participate, rather than the certificate alone. The main limitation is that auditing does not produce academic credit or an official transcript, and the adult support model requires personal independence.
