King's College London
London, United Kingdom
About King's College London
King's College London is a London university founded in 1829. Its Summer Programs department specializes in international education and study abroad, drawing academic content from the university's subject expertise. Its portfolio includes pre-university and undergraduate summer schools, summer research, and customized study abroad courses for international partners. London short courses are taught on campus at Bush House, with access to university learning facilities.
Teaching style
King's emphasizes research-enhanced teaching. Its pre-university teaching combines lectures and seminars with interactive activities that may include discussions, role play, simulations, and guest-speaker questions. Assignments reflect university-level assessment and include tutor feedback. Undergraduate summer offerings emphasize experiential, research-based learning through workshops, seminars, and lectures.
Reputation & Succeed take
King's reports university-wide rankings of 31st globally in the QS World University Rankings 2026 and 36th in the Times Higher Education World Rankings 2025. It also reports 14 Nobel Laureates. These institutional credentials provide context for its summer offerings, rather than evidence of summer school outcomes.
Our take
King's is a strong option for students seeking subject exploration and a structured introduction to university study in central London. Its summer portfolio combines university facilities, interactive academic work, and social activities. For younger applicants, the published attendance requirements, assignments, and expectation of maturity make readiness for an intensive academic experience an important consideration.
Features to compare with other providers include delivery by a university's international education department, a broad subject portfolio, central London campus teaching, and separate routes for pre-university and undergraduate students. Younger students can combine short courses and choose residential or nonresidential participation.
Who this provider suits
Who should choose them
Academically motivated high school students seeking to explore university subjects, experience campus life, and meet international peers should consider King's pre-university route if they meet its age and English requirements. Students already attending other universities can consider its undergraduate summer and research offerings. International institutions seeking customized study abroad courses can explore its partner options.
Who it may not suit
The pre-university route is a poor fit for students seeking optional attendance or a primarily recreational stay, because sessions are compulsory and assignments reflect university-level assessment. Applicants who do not meet the relevant age or English requirements should choose another eligible route. Students seeking uninterrupted direct supervision should review the stated exceptions for bedrooms and scheduled independent time.
