Save programOxford Scholastica's engineering internship centers on a collaborative research paper, with an expert mentor guiding topic development, research and writing.
Students read existing research, define a question, divide paper sections, exchange feedback and present their findings before preparing the manuscript for journal submission.
It suits students who want to test their interest in engineering through academic reading and teamwork, particularly around emerging technologies and real-world design challenges.
The Engineering Online Research Internship is Oxford Scholastica's guided introduction to collaborative engineering research. Students investigate topics including aerial taxis, Artificial Intelligence in medical imaging, climate-resilient buildings and wearable health technologies. The experience follows a research-and-writing process, with a mentor helping students turn their reading into a focused academic argument.
Small teams divide research responsibilities, draft sections of a shared paper and improve their work through mentor feedback and peer review. They finish by presenting their findings and preparing the paper for submission to the OxJournal editorial board. Oxford Scholastica is an independent provider with no formal connection to the University of Oxford.
The four-session sequence makes the research process concrete, from background reading to a finished manuscript.
Teams of three or four give students a defined role in a shared paper.
Mentor feedback and peer review create opportunities to improve writing before the final presentation.
The topic choices connect engineering to transport, healthcare and climate resilience.
Students who enjoy investigating engineering questions and want guided experience in reading research, writing academically and collaborating with peers.
You mainly want practical construction projects or paid employment; the activities focus on research, writing and discussion, and interns do not receive pay.
This is worth considering if you want a structured first experience of engineering research and would benefit from feedback on your writing. The shared paper and presentation give you concrete work to reflect on when discussing your subject interests.
The value depends on contributing actively between meetings, because reading and drafting are central to the experience. Students seeking individual research ownership or practical equipment-based work may prefer another format. Treat journal submission and a recommendation as conditional outcomes rather than the main reason to participate.

Useful if
You want to practice academic research before choosing an engineering degree.
You work with a mentor and a small research team to develop an engineering paper, using background reading and draft feedback to build your argument. Each meeting moves the project toward a final presentation and a manuscript prepared for journal submission.
Meet the mentor, explore the topic and form a team of three or four.
Read existing research and begin recording your findings between meetings.
Choose a research question, plan the paper and divide writing responsibilities.
Discuss findings, review peers' work and draft your section with mentor feedback.
Combine sections, present the findings and finalize references and formatting for OxJournal submission.
