Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes introduces computer-aided drafting through technical drawings, geometric shapes, 2D work, and basic 3D modeling.
Students combine live classes with assignments and projects, building a portfolio that shows their developing drafting skills.
It suits students who want to test their interest in engineering, architecture, or design through practical work.
Computer Aided Drafting and Design is a Stanford Pre-Collegiate Summer Institutes course introducing the technical drawing side of design. It connects Computer Science, Design, and Engineering through foundational computer-aided drafting skills.
Students work on drawing-file setup, geometric shapes, 2D drawings, and basic 3D modeling. Live online instruction is paired with assignments and projects, and students build a portfolio showing the drafting skills they develop.
The course connects design ideas with practical technical drawing skills.
Coverage of both 2D drawing and basic 3D modeling gives students a useful introduction to CADD.
A drafting portfolio makes students' progress visible through their own work.
Online office hours provide a support channel alongside live classes.
Students curious about engineering, architecture, or design who want to try technical drawing and build practical work.
You want a light, self-paced introduction or cannot accommodate daily live classes and substantial homework.
This course is worth considering if you want to find out whether technical drawing and design technology interest you. Its portfolio work gives you something concrete to reflect on, while the combination of 2D and basic 3D work introduces several connected skills.
The workload requires sustained attention beyond live lessons, so it needs a protected place in your daily routine. Treat it as foundational subject exploration, and judge its value by what you learn and create; participation does not guarantee Stanford admission.
