UBC's course connects business analytics with AI and visual communication, helping students understand how information becomes a useful story.
You explore real-world examples, experiment with beginner-friendly tools and work in a team to build and present a mini data project.
It suits students curious about the overlap between business, technology and design, with university preparation workshops alongside subject study.
Introduction to Data Storytelling and AI is a hands-on course offered by UBC Sauder School of Business through UBC Extended Learning's Future Global Leaders program. It explores how businesses analyze information, identify trends and communicate insights through visual storytelling.
Students experiment with beginner-friendly AI tools and investigate examples such as social media trends, customer preferences and sustainability data. Academic classes take place on campus alongside university preparation workshops, with a team mini data project providing a practical focus.
The course connects AI tools to concrete business questions, giving beginners a clear reason to use them.
The team project makes communicating insights part of the learning, alongside analyzing data.
Alym Amlani brings teaching experience in accounting, information systems and data analytics at UBC Sauder.
University preparation workshops broaden the experience beyond a single academic subject.
The residence option combines campus life with trained staff support and organized activities.
Students who want to explore how business, AI and design meet through practical data activities and collaborative presentation.
You want intensive technical specialization in machine learning, or expect attendance to provide a direct university admissions pathway.
This course offers a useful way to test an interest in business analytics before choosing a more specialized subject. The combination of real-world examples, beginner-friendly AI tools and a team presentation gives students several ways to engage with data.
Its value is strongest when you also want university preparation and campus experience. Treat it as an introduction and a chance to develop skills; Future Global Leaders does not provide a direct pathway to university admission, and residence adds a substantial separate expense.
