This UBC mini school examines how social biases and identities influence inequality, combining psychological theories and experiments with lab meetings and research demonstrations.
Its strongest fit is a student considering psychology who wants to connect academic ideas with questions about inclusion and social change.
The UBC Psychology of Social Groups Mini School is an academic option within UBC Extended Learning's Future Global Leaders program. It explores the origins and consequences of social biases, the influence of social identities, and approaches to greater inclusion.
Students connect theories and experiments with psychology lab meetings and research demonstrations. The campus experience combines subject study with student life activities, offering a practical way to explore an interest in psychology and social change.
Lab meetings and research demonstrations give the academic content a concrete connection to psychology research.
The focus on bias, identity and inequality offers a clear subject direction for students interested in social change.
The named instructors bring research experience in social development, emotions and moral psychology.
The mini school introduces learning pathways and career opportunities alongside its academic material.
Students considering psychology who want to investigate social identity, inequality and inclusion through academic study and lab exposure.
You want a direct university admissions pathway or prefer a lighter schedule without morning and afternoon classes.
The mini school is a strong option if your main goal is to test an interest in social psychology through university-level ideas and lab exposure. Its focused subject matter gives you more to reflect on than a general campus visit.
The value depends on how closely that focus matches your interests and your family's budget. Treat the experience and Letter of Completion as evidence of exploration; participation does not provide a direct pathway to university admission.
