Students study alongside undergraduates, collaborate on a presentation and engage with a cohort through study groups and other activities.
Its strongest fit is a student who wants genuine academic responsibility and college preparation while learning from home.
eSCIP is the fully virtual version of UCLA Summer Sessions' Summer College Immersion Program. It combines one or two approved undergraduate courses with co-curricular workshops and cohort activities. Students learn alongside UCLA and visiting undergraduates rather than following a separate school-level curriculum.
Course choices span subjects including Psychology, Economics, History, Film and Television, Life Sciences and Statistics. College admissions, research and wellness workshops complement that academic work. A collaborative presentation about a UCLA initiative gives students a shared task beyond their individual courses.
Studying alongside undergraduates provides a concrete test of readiness for college-level academic work.
Approved courses offer meaningful subject choice, from humanities and social sciences to science and medicine.
College admissions and research workshops connect academic exploration with practical university preparation.
Weekly instructor and TA office hours give students a clear route to academic help.
The group presentation makes collaboration and participation part of the experience.
Academically confident students who want undergraduate coursework, structured college preparation and collaboration while studying from home.
You need entirely self-paced learning or cannot protect the scheduled live workshops alongside course assignments.
eSCIP can be worthwhile when the goal is to test undergraduate study and develop better academic habits. Its value comes from completing real coursework, using office hours and engaging with the workshops, rather than simply adding UCLA's name to an application.
The main limitations are the tuition commitment and fixed live schedule. Credit transfer depends on the receiving institution, and participation carries no admission advantage within the UC system. Families should judge the experience against the student's subject interests and ability to sustain the workload.
