STEMspired Girls combines practical science and engineering with the contributions of women in STEM, making subject exploration feel connected to real people and discoveries.
Campers work together on experiments and technology activities, with campus laboratory access adding something distinctive to the experience.
It suits curious learners who enjoy trying different STEM activities and developing confidence through teamwork.
STEMspired Girls is a University of Ottawa Engineering Outreach camp intended to address women's underrepresentation in STEM. It combines technology, engineering and science activities with access to biology and chemistry laboratories. Learning about women in STEM gives practical activities a wider context.
The Intermediate group explores foundational concepts through experiments, coding, design and engineering teamwork. The Senior group adds activities involving Micro:Bits and robotics alongside biological and chemical experiments. Both groups emphasize curiosity and practical participation rather than a single narrow subject.
University biology and chemistry laboratories make this more distinctive than a classroom-only STEM activity camp.
Experiments, coding and engineering activities let campers compare different interests through practical participation.
Women's contributions to STEM provide concrete role models alongside the activities.
Separate Intermediate and Senior groups help match the experience to campers' school stages.
Curious learners who enjoy experiments, building and coding, and would benefit from an encouraging setting with women in STEM as role models.
Your child wants an intensive course in one specialist topic or your family needs an overnight camp.
STEMspired Girls is worth considering when the goal is to build curiosity and confidence through doing. Laboratory access, varied technology activities and the focus on women in STEM give families concrete reasons to choose it.
Its breadth is also its limitation: a short camp offers exploration rather than sustained specialization. Families should weigh that experience against daily transport, lunch preparation and whether their child enjoys group activities.
