Social Psychology in Action examines how social situations shape thoughts, feelings and behavior, with attention to attitudes, relationships and group processes.
Lectures, texts and participation tasks build toward a final project involving small-scale research.
It suits students who want to test their interest in human behavior while experiencing structured university study and supervised campus life.
Social Psychology in Action is an afternoon course within the University of Toronto, New College's Pre-University program. It examines how people relate to one another and how social situations, including differences in power, influence behavior, feelings and thoughts.
Students explore social perception, attitudes, group processes, relationships and research design through lectures, texts and participation tasks. A final project introduces small-scale research, while the wider Pre-U package combines a morning course with residence life, supervised activities and excursions.
The course connects recognizable social experiences with academic concepts such as attitudes, relationships and group processes.
A small-scale research project gives students a practical introduction to investigating psychological questions.
The paired morning-and-afternoon course structure offers broader academic exploration alongside psychology.
Resident counselors, supervised excursions and security arrangements give families concrete support features to assess.
Students curious about human behavior who enjoy critical reading, participation and research, and want a structured residential university experience.
You want a day-only course, a psychology-only booking or a mostly unstructured vacation.
This is a useful option for students who want to move from an everyday interest in people to studying behavior through concepts and research design. The final project gives that exploration a concrete academic focus, while residence life adds experience of living and learning with classmates.
Its value depends on wanting the full Pre-U experience, because the booking combines psychology with another course and compulsory residence. Families should weigh that structure against a focused day course or online option, particularly if psychology is their only priority.
