En Français is Shad Canada's residential STEAM and entrepreneurship program delivered entirely in French. Hosted at Campus Saint-Jean of the University of Alberta, it combines science, technology, arts and business through hands-on lectures, labs and workshops.
Students live together on campus and work in teams to address real-world problems. Academic learning sits alongside recreation, field trips and evening community events, with professors, entrepreneurs, innovators and near-peer tutors contributing to the experience.
French is the language of the whole experience, giving academic collaboration a consistent linguistic setting.
The team design project connects STEAM exploration with practical entrepreneurship and real-world problem solving.
Professor-led lectures, researcher seminars and industry workshops bring several professional perspectives into learning.
A minimum 1:8 mentor-to-student ratio provides a concrete measure of the live-in support model.
Income-based assistance and full or partial scholarships give eligible domestic families meaningful funding routes.
Curious students who enjoy exploring several disciplines, contributing to team projects and learning in a French-speaking community.
You want beginner French instruction, a single-subject course or a flexible experience that allows time away for other commitments.
En Français is a strong option if you want to test academic interests through hands-on work while developing collaboration and independence. Its combination of a team project, professional contributors and campus living offers several ways to discover what interests you.
The substantial residential fee and full-program commitment deserve careful family planning. Its interdisciplinary approach favors exploration over specialization, so a focused subject course may suit a student with a narrower learning goal.
