A process-focused acting course that brings together scene study, movement, voice, improv and on-camera practice.
Students work as an ensemble, practice auditions and share their work in a workshop performance for family and friends.
It suits students who want to test their interest in acting through sustained practice and collaboration.
Summer Theatre Conservatory: Acting Intensive is USC Pre-College’s conservatory-style acting course. It emphasizes the process of acting through movement, voice, technique, theory and contemporary and classical scene study. Theatre professionals guide students through collaborative ensemble work and performance practice.
The practical experience includes text analysis, improv, on-camera acting and a monologue audition master class. Students share their work with family and friends through workshop performance. Professional theatre visits connect classroom practice with live productions when schedules permit.
Movement, voice and scene study give students a broad foundation rather than concentrating on a single performance technique.
Mock auditions, self-tape reviews and the monologue master class connect acting practice with university audition preparation.
Ensemble work makes collaboration a central part of the learning experience.
A workshop performance gives students a concrete opportunity to share their developing craft.
Successful completion carries three units of elective credit, with transfer acceptance determined by the receiving institution.
Students who want sustained acting practice, enjoy ensemble collaboration and are curious about stage, camera or university audition work.
You want a casual activity with flexible attendance or expect participation to guarantee university admission.
This course is worth considering if you want to find out how much you enjoy the daily work of acting. Its combination of ensemble practice, audition exercises and scene study offers several ways to test that interest. College credit adds a tangible academic outcome when the course is completed successfully.
The financial commitment is substantial, and USC Summer Programs does not offer financial aid. Credit transfer is also a decision for the receiving college. Judge the course by the training and campus experience you want, rather than expecting an admissions advantage.
