This conservatory connects singing, acting and dance through musical storytelling. Students practice individual solos and ensemble numbers rather than studying performance only in theory.
The course builds toward a workshop production and includes audition preparation. It suits performers who want to collaborate, experiment and test the demands of conservatory-style training.
Summer Theatre Conservatory: Musical Theatre is USC Pre-College’s conservatory-style course in musical storytelling. Acting and music classes develop character and emotion through song, while dance classes explore techniques used in musical theater.
Participants work as an ensemble with faculty whose professional experience spans Broadway, West End, television and film. Solo practice, rehearsals and theater-related field trips lead toward a workshop production attended by faculty, fellow participants, friends and family.
The curriculum connects acting, singing and dance around storytelling, giving students a clear reason to develop all three disciplines.
A workshop production gives ensemble rehearsals a concrete performance goal.
Faculty experience across Broadway, West End, television and film adds professional context to the training.
Audition practice and sheet-music preparation address practical next steps for aspiring performers.
Successful completion earns university elective credit alongside the performance experience.
Performers who want to connect vocal interpretation, movement and character work while collaborating in an ensemble.
You want a casual drop-in experience or prefer to focus exclusively on singing without acting, dance and group rehearsals.
This course offers a useful test of whether sustained musical theater training suits you. Ensemble work, individual performance practice and a final production make it more substantial than a brief campus visit.
Its value depends on wanting the training itself and being able to manage the financial commitment. College credit is a concrete benefit, but transfer is discretionary and participation does not guarantee admission to USC.
