    AI in Action summary

AI in Action pairs practical experimentation with questions about responsible technology use. Students explore how AI works, what it can create and how its effects should be evaluated.

Prompt engineering exercises and creative projects sit alongside discussions of industry applications, sustainability and future careers. University preparation workshops add a broader introduction to academic life.

The strongest fit is a curious learner who wants to connect technological possibilities with ethical judgment and creativity.

What is AI in Action: Ethics, Innovation and Application?

AI in Action: Ethics, Innovation and Application is a UBC Extended Learning course within Future Global Leaders. It introduces AI and Generative AI through practical work while examining ethical usage, global challenges and innovative applications. The emphasis is on using tools responsibly and creatively.

Students practice prompt engineering and develop AI-driven creative projects alongside discussions of industry impacts, sustainability and potential careers. Academic classes are paired with university preparation workshops. The broader campus experience includes opportunities to meet peers and take part in recreational activities.

Why Succeed highlights AI in Action

    • Practical prompt engineering is paired with ethical evaluation, encouraging students to question the tools they use.

    • Creative projects give students a way to apply AI concepts beyond discussion.

    • Industry and sustainability topics connect AI learning with decisions outside the classroom.

    • Rochelle Grayson's technology experience and UBC teaching award provide a concrete basis for instructor credibility.

    • University preparation workshops broaden the experience beyond a single academic subject.

Who is AI in Action for?

    Best for

Students who want to experiment creatively with AI while discussing its risks, social effects and potential careers.

    Not ideal if

Your main goal is intensive machine-learning programming or a direct university admission pathway; the course centers on AI applications and responsible use.

Is AI in Action worth it?

The course is worth considering if you want a practical introduction to AI that also asks how it should be used. Creative exercises and ethical discussion offer useful ways to test your interest, while university preparation workshops add broader academic context.

Its value depends on whether that combination matches your goals and family budget. Treat it as subject exploration and university experience: attendance does not create a direct pathway to UBC, and the Letter of Completion depends on attendance and conduct.
