This is an intensive residential research experience centered on fungal-enzyme characterization and inhibitor design.
Teams of three combine wet-lab techniques, computational molecular modeling, bioinformatics, and quantitative analysis before communicating their findings in a poster and report.

The Biochemistry Summer Science Program is an immersive research experience run by SSP International. Participants investigate the structural and chemical properties of enzymes and apply their findings to the design of molecules that could inhibit fungal pathogens affecting crops.
Students work in teams of three and combine bench experiments with computational tools. The experience covers biochemical methods, molecular modeling, mathematics, and bioinformatics while emphasizing hypothesis-building, analysis of new results, and scientific communication.
Students complete a coherent research pipeline rather than isolated classroom exercises.

The verified 2026 biochemistry sessions were hosted at Hendrix College, Chadron State College, the College of Wooster, Indiana University, Purdue University, and the University of Guelph. Participants receive their campus assignment after admission, and assignments are not open to change.
